I left school at 15 knowing exactly what I wanted to do, but I had to get a job so I started at the Arrow shirt factory, no other reasons than to be near my band mates and also close to home, as I was hopeless at early mornings and the factory was only 400 yards away. We would rehearse in the factory canteen and actually called ourselves “The Arrows” for a while, just so we would get free shirts. It was a very short time, probably only a matter of months, before we were ‘ready’ to perform in public, the first gigs being in the factory canteen after work for whoever decided to stay behind.
