Zebedee Music
A business venture for some of the band was “Zebedee Music”, which was opened in
Leigh-on-Sea not far from The Elms, selling guitars and amps. I remember the opening
ceremony very well. They had booked Simon Dee (famous TV chat show host at the time)
to get a load of publicity, I think he wanted £100 which was a lot of dosh then.
Although I wasn’t involved in the business, I offered to chauffeur him from his West
End flat in my Bentley. The next day there was a big thing in the papers about him
coming to Southend to “open a shop”, no mention of Zebedee Music! Chris and Tony
ended up with the business and after a short time closed the shop in favour of a
unit to manufacture and install P.A. equipment, establishing “SASS”.
Mark Wesley was a DJ at Radio Luxembourg, and also a well known songwriter in Southend.
In 1971 he approached us to record quite a few of his songs which we did at The City
of London studios. Some of them were quite good and came out fairly well, “House
of Heartaches” was very commercial as was “Every Part of My Heart” and could have
been hits, but again, nothing happened. This was to be our last studio work as a
band.
