Must have been 1965 by now. A house was built on the scrubland next door and in moved Sheila & Tom Handley. Sheila was a bubbly young blonde who was really into our music, instead of complaining about the noise she would come over and listen to us rehearse. She too soon had a new neighbour on the other side who played piano and suggested we get together. A ‘real musician’ joined the band, Chris Brown made us a six piece with his Hohner Pianotron.

Somebody decided to enter us for “Opportunity Knocks”. We set up at the audition amongst a myriad of diverse acts, and as soon as we started playing our P.A. amp blew up. Hughie Green just said “Come back when your amp is fixed!”... We didn’t.
